Heavy rainfall can cost and inconvenience you in more ways than you may realise.
Apart from the obvious financial costs when heavy down pours cause flooding, you could also end up paying for the storm water if your drains have not been laid and connected correctly in the first place.
You may not even realise that you have a drain problem at your property. But, a tell-tale sign can be that once you have had your Septic Tank or Bio Treatment Plant emptied one week, after another shower of rain, your tank is full again! Sometimes people think that their tank has not been emptied properly. But, more often than not, it is because the drains and sewage system have not been installed and connected properly. If your Storm Drains have been incorrectly connected to your Foul Drains, every time it rains the rain water will make its way in to your sewage system instead of running straight out in to the storm ditch.
If this is the case you can expect the following likely to occur:-
- Your soak-away becomes water logged un-necessarily, so your sewage system can ‘back-up ’and not be able to function correctly –eventually ceasing to cope at all!
- You will need to have your system emptied more often, costing more money than it should.
- Flooding of a Bio Unit can cause the motor to become submerged and burn out. Thus, incurring yet more expense as you will need to purchase a new motor.
